Octagon client Jason Robinson becomes Sale Sharks Head Coach in two year deal
London 25 February: Jason Robinson is named Head Coach of Sale Sharks
Former England and British and Irish Lions legend Jason Robinson, will be returning to Sale Sharks as Head Coach on a 2 year contract. Having lead Sale to their first Guinness Premiership as Captain in 2006, he will be hoping to repeat that success as head of the coaching staff.
The former England World Cup Winner, who is the most successful player to switch codes, having enjoyed vast glory as part of the Wigan rugby League side that dominated during the 1990’s prior to his success at Sale and for England, will be a pivotal part of the new Director of Rugby Kingsley Jones’ backroom staff at the start of next season.
Jones said:
“It’s fantastic news for the Club that Jason has agreed to join the coaching staff. It’s no coincidence that in the three years that Jason was captain was the most successful in the Clubs history. He has great mentoring skills which will prove invaluable in his work with the senior and academy players at the Club.”
Robinson is part of a big change at Edgeley Park that see’s him joined by scrummage and forwards coach Keith-Roach who was a key part of Sir Clive Woodward’s backroom staff during England’s 2003 World Cup triumph.
Despite Robinson living happily in retirement following England’s 2007 World Cup Final loss to South Africa, his decision to return to coaching will be welcomed by all rugby fans who hope that one day they can watch a player with comparable footwork, vision and speed.
In addition to his work for Sale, Jason will continue his ambassador role for HSBC and Gillette while developing a partnership with the Youth Sport Trust. Jason has been a client of Octagon since he switched from rugby league to rugby union in 2000.
