Octagon News

30 Jun 2008

Octagon has been named as one of the UK’s best 500 companies to work for by The Sunday Times. The Best Companies Guide surveyed over 500,000 employees across nearly 2,000 organisations, using confidential feedback from employees to find out how people really feel about their employers.

This is the first year that the leading sport, music and entertainment specialist Octagon has entered, making its debut at number 269 and earning ‘One to Watch’ status. This points to a bright future and ranks it alongside companies such as Eversheds, Mazda and Lloyds TSB.

The Best Companies Guide survey examines eight workplace factors that determine an employee’s engagement and ranks them accordingly:

  • How employees view the senior management (Leadership)
  • How employees value the company (My Company)
  • Whether employees feel challenged by their job (Personal Growth)
  • How people view their direct manager (My Manager)
  • Support from work colleagues and the level of team spirit (My Team)
  • Investment in people and wider society (Giving something back)
  • How employees are treated (Fair Deal); and finally
  • The opportunity to balance work and home (Wellbeing)

Nick Massey, Octagon’s CEO for Europe and the Middle East, was delighted with the inaugural entry but is keen to push for the top 200 in 2009. "This is a great reflection of the people that we have at Octagon. It is their knowledge, spirit and hard working ethos that mean that we are doing a great job for our clients but also growing our business. We have laid down the challenge for ourselves to break into the top 200 for 2009 and are looking to create the environment where we can develop our people through an ‘academy’ approach and a stimulating, supportive work environment."
