The Great Speight's Beer Delivery
Rather than simply sending the beer, why not send the whole pub! Octagon helped conceive, produce and manage numerous logistical elements of the greatest beer delivery the world has ever seen.
Departing from Dunedin Harbour in New Zealand, an authentic Speight’s Ale House travelled 13,400 nautical miles to help quench the thirst of a lonely Kiwi living in London. The traditional ale house, stocked with 75 kegs of Speight’s beer, was transported on the top deck of a freighter by a five-man crew accompanied by five volunteer Speight’s Mates (chosen from 2000 applicants), and an Octagon staff member.
During the 70-day journey, the Speight’s Ale House made stops in Samoa, Panama, the Bahamas and New York before arriving in London in October. During the brief layover in New York, the crew met up with fellow New Zealander (and Tiger Woods' caddy) Steve Williams. The meeting was arranged through Octagon First Call as a means to generate additional publicity for Speights.
The journey was chronicled, with footage beamed back to New Zealand, and broadcast by Prime TV with updated blogs and photos delivered on www.greatbeerdelivery.co.nz. Coinciding with the ocean voyage, the Speight’s Road Tour visited New Zealand cities, making a great beer delivery to thirsty Speight’s drinkers.
