Sébastien Foucan
Sébastien Foucan somersaulted, tumbled, free-ran and vaulted his way into public prominence as one of the stars of Mike Christie’s Jump London documentary (shown in 2003). The sight of Foucan’s rooftop antics was totally mesmerising. The lithe, free-flowing movement was certainly the coolest, most liberating thing people had seen in a long time.
The discipline known as Freerunning originated in Lisses, France, when a childhood Foucan and a small group of friends developed the concept of combining movement with their urban environment in a unique, challenging and aesthetically beautiful way. Even simple trips to the shops would be executed in novel ways.
Foucan was the first person ever to freerun. has created the trademark Freerunning moves and, as the founder of the art, Foucan is taking it upon himself to promote Freerunning globally.
To Foucan, Freerunning is the art of expressing yourself in your environment with no limitations. It is about feeling and being connected. Deeply influenced by martial arts, the philosophy behind it is to unify body, spirit and environment.
In 2006, Foucan toured with Madonna as a performer in her show Confessions on a Dance Floor. The tour ran for 109 days and was sold out at all 55 venues across eight countries.
The role that has given Foucan a truly global following is as villain Mollaka in Casino Royale. The ‘chase’ sequence sees Foucan performing a graceful series of tucks, drops and rolls while Bond takes a more direct route. Bond gets his man but Foucan steals the show.
During 2008 Foucan appeared in adverts for K-Swiss throughout the world and, in addition to embracing Foucan as their global icon, K-Swiss launched a Foucan Freerunning shoe.
Following in the footsteps of Mother Theresa, Michael Jackson and Albert Einstein, Foucan addressed the Oxford Union to rave reviews in February 2009.
In Spring 2009, Foucan’s second movie The Tournament will be released. He plays a Freerunning assassin, alongside Robert Carlyle and Ving Rhames.
