Il Divo
The word phenomenon is often used rather too cheaply these days but in the case of Il Divo it is the only word that comes close to describing the operatic supergroup.
Since the quartet was launched in late 2004 under the guidance of Simon Cowell, Il Divo has sold over 22 million albums worldwide, achieved 36 Number Ones across 26 countries and garnered over 130 gold and platinum awards. The speed and scale of their success has been breathtaking.
Composed of renowned Spanish opera baritone Carlos Marin, classically trained tenors Urs Buhler (Switzerland) and David Miller (USA), and French pop singer Sebastian Izambard, Il Divo possess flawless performance and vocal credentials.
Bringing their classical training and experience to the interpretation of romantic and popular songs, Il Divo create music that appeals to audiences all over the world. As a result, their three albums, Il Divo, Ancora, and Siempre have become best-sellers.
In 2007, their sell-out world tour took in cities as diverse as Shanghai, Sydney, Cape Town, London, Stockholm, Buenos Aires and Tokyo. Few artists come close to matching that worldwide appeal, with over 1.5 million concert tickets already sold.
The quartet has performed with some of the most famous artists in the world; singing a duet with Celine Dion, and being invited by Barbra Streisand to join her on stage in all 20 concerts of her North American tour in 2006.
But perhaps their most famous performance was alongside Toni Braxton with whom they had recorded the official anthem for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. In front of a global TV audience of some one billion people, they performed The Time of Our Lives at the opening ceremony and the World Cup final.
Having just finished recording for the global release of their next album in November, Carlos, David, Sebastien and Urs are determined as ever to continue their journey in romancing the world...
